Introducing Ruby Rivers!
Ruby Rivers has created a very tall order for itself: to find a place among folk music's masters. Named after front-woman, Crystal Ponzio's mother's 1970's West Texas folk band, the new millennium version has made its home in New York City. Today, the Ruby Rivers sound is an eclectic and soulful mix of indie pop and alternative country with nostalgic melodies and harmonies reminiscent of the band's first generation, along with modern-day greats like Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch and Ray LaMontagne.
Fall 2008 marked the release of Ruby Rivers' first EP, Pretty Little Lady, produced and engineered at Shirk Music and Sound in Chicago. The songs are simple and somewhat quirky and are evident of the band's curiosity for new instrumentation and witty musical narrative. Pretty Little Lady's release has been supported by a slew of live shows in New York, LA and Chicago. In August 2008, Ruby Rivers was invited to perform at the SPIN Music Lounge at Lollapalooza in Chicago where they shared the stage with the likes of Butch Walker, Tally Hall and Ben Jelen. After playing for several packed houses in NYC at venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, the Living Room and the Canal Room, the band rounded out the year at the CMJ Music Marathon in October 2008 to very warm reception.
Ruby Rivers' music has been described by College Music Journal as "intelligent as it is inviting," and they were listed among Losanjealous.com's "Bands to Watch in 2009." The coming months promise to be very exciting for Ruby Rivers as they embark on a Fall tour and begin recording their second EP in NYC. Their songs will also begin appearing across film and television in early 2010. For booking and other information, contact Jolina Hoang at jolina.hoang@mtvstaff.com
